About

What is Hunting Armadillos about?

Hunting Armadillos is a blog with the primary objective of trying to understand the whereabouts of the iconic armadillo shoes from McQueen’s Spring Summer 2010 show Plato’s Atlantis.

In doing so, my hope is to (as far as possible):

  • Verify the number of existing pairs;
  • Document sightings of each pair; and
  • Track down each pair’s current location.

Who is the author of Hunting Armadillos?

Absolutely nobody special.

I don’t work in fashion and I am not a journalist. I am not an Alexander McQueen historian.

What I am is someone who (like many others) was captivated by McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2010 show Plato’s Atlantis, in particular, the armadillo shoes.

This blog is about my personal quest to uncover the fate of Alexander McQueen’s iconic armadillo shoes from his Spring/Summer 2010 “Plato’s Atlantis” collection.

Over the years, I’ve often found myself wondering about these extraordinary creations. As with any set of rare, iconic items, I’ve been curious about what happened to each pair after they left the runway. Where did they end up? Who owns them now? Are they preserved in museums, cherished by private collectors, or perhaps hidden away in McQueen’s archives?

With some time to spare, I decided to turn this recurring curiosity into a focussed project. This blog serves as a chronicle of my research efforts to track down the current whereabouts of each pair of armadillo shoes.

Here, I’ll be sharing my findings, the process of my investigation, and anything interesting I uncover along the way.

Hunting Armadillos’ design

In keeping with the time of the Plato’s Atlantis show and the fact that I am a geriatric Millennial, I have decided to lean in heavily to a 2010 blog vibe.

Could this blog be more sleek and fancy? Probably. But I really do think we lost something as even personal blogs went all editorial and magazine-style. So, I’ve gone old school.
